Electromechanical Engineer (Hybrid Propulsion)

Electromechanical Engineer (Hybrid Propulsion)

Job Description

GreenSight is seeking a hands-on Electromechanical Engineer to lead the system architecture, detailed mechanical design, and physical validation of hybrid-electric power and propulsion systems across our robotics portfolio (flying, driving, swimming, and orbiting systems). In this role, you will balance system-level trade-offs—evaluating battery capacity, weight constraints, fuel energy density, and payload—while executing the physical design, FEA modeling, and laboratory bring-up of electric motors and drives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hybrid Architecture & Systems Analysis: Conduct system-level trade studies to evaluate powertrain topologies (series/parallel hybrid), sizing battery capacity, motor power, and fuel engine output against vehicle mass, range, and mission payload limits.
  • Electromechanical Machine Design: Create 3D CAD models of electric motors, dynamic mechanisms, structural packaging, and custom energy generation systems.
  • FEA & Simulation: Perform electromagnetic, thermal, or structural simulations using FEA software (Altair Flux, ANSYS, or equivalent) to optimize efficiency maps and component sizing.
  • Drive & System Bring-Up: Wire, tune, and test BLDC/PMSM motor drives and energy management controls on physical test benches; resolve multi-component integration issues.
  • Lab Validation & Testing: Instrument test rigs using power analyzers, torque sensors, and dynamic loads to validate physical system performance against system models.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: BS or MS in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering with 3+ years of professional hardware experience.
  • System Trade Modeling: Demonstrated experience modeling system-level trade-offs (e.g., energy storage density, battery sizing vs. payload, duty cycles, weight vs. endurance).
  • 3D CAD & Packaging: Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) for physical machine design and component integration.
  • FEM / Simulation Tools: Hands-on experience with engineering simulation software (Altair Flux, ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent) for FEA or powertrain system modeling.
  • Hands-On Lab Skills: Practical experience assembling, wiring, instrumenting, and troubleshooting motor/drive hardware on a test bench.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Direct experience with hybrid powertrains or internal combustion engine (ICE) co-optimization.
  • PCB layout or power distribution hardware experience (Altium).
  • Python scripting for test automation or multidisciplinary analysis (MDAO).

Experience

3+ years of non-intern experience

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $140,000 – $180,000

Benefits: Stock options, 401(k) with match, full health/dental/vision coverage, 9/80 flexible work schedule, 15 days vacation plus paid year-end shutdown (Christmas to New Year’s).
